He began his singer/songwriter career in 1964, rapidly abandoning his training as a schoolteacher when he turned full-time pro in 1966. He has produced 15 albums of his own songs and many have been recorded by other artists, including Mary Hopkin and Christy Moore - one has made it into the Oxford Book of Traditional English Verse.
