Moving Forward (via elzoot79)
Big ass wall painted by myself, juice126 and newso.
Forward is Birminghams moto written under a coat of arms that places art and industry side by side
The type face is Baskerville designed in 1757 by John Baskerville. The typeface is the result of John Baskerville’s intent to improve upon the types of William Caslon. He increased the contrast between thick and thin strokes, making the serifs sharper and more tapered, and shifted the axis of rounded letters to a more vertical position. The curved strokes are more circular in shape, and the characters became more regular. These changes created a greater consistency in size and form.
The wall has been painted as part of an exhibition we are putting on. We have invaded B.J. Components a small factory that produces hand made parts for classic motorcycles, we have used materials provided by them and have created 1 piece each based on the theme of Birminghams industry, typography and product design. These pieces have then been donated to and displayed within B.J. Components (the show has no commercial value at all).
Like all the other industrial units in digbeth B.J. Components is hidden away behind shutters with no real indication of what goes on inside
So we thought we would show you, we have filmed the pieces up on the walls with sparks flying and workers working all around. this film will be shown at the wild building,104 floodgate st, Digbeth from 12noon till 4pm from tomorrow till sunday. For those of you not in the area we may well stick the footage up online once the exhibition is over.
